is with great pride that I present to you the American Eagle 1860 Army
Revolver. Combining a classic and legendary firearm with the majestic symbol
of the American bald eagle, the United States Society of Arms and Armour and
America Remembers have fashioned an incredible firearm that will be admired
by all who see it.
This revolver is a tribute to the spirit of
American freedom, and to the brave and proud Americans who have fought to
preserve it.
This fully-functional
working firearm is spectacularly adorned with the image of an American bald
eagle, the wings and body featured in 24-karat gold and the head and tail
feathers in pure silver. This is a genuine working firearm, but it is exempt
from all Federal Firearms license requirements, and may be shipped directly
to you.
The American bald eagle
highlights the sleek elegant design of the 1860 Army Revolver. As
universally recognized and uniquely American as the bald eagle, the 1860
Army Revolver was arguably the most famous firearm produced by Samuel Colt
prior to his death in 1862.
The 1860
Army Revolver was introduced just in time for the Civil War. It was the
weapon of choice during this most tumultuous era in American history.
The classic 1860 Army Revolver by Samuel Colt was held in
high esteem from the very first. This was the pistol, of all
the famous firearms he created, that Samuel Colt chose to present to General
George McClellan on his appointment as Commanding General of the Union Army.
President Lincoln even selected the 1860 Army for presentation to the Kings
of Denmark and Sweden and Norway.
The
1860 Army Revolver was remarkably light for its time - weighing but 2
pounds, 10 ounces - yet it had prodigious stopping power. The six-shot .44
caliber revolver was remarkably powerful for its time.
Classically Decorated With the Symbol of
Freedom
To me, it's only fitting that such an
important firearm should be decorated with the noble eagle, the symbol of
American Freedom.
In 1782, the
Continental Congress chose the bald eagle to grace the Great Seal of the
United States. They recognized the bird as a grand expression of the
American spirit. Today, the eagle appears on the Seal of the President, the
Navy and the Air Force, and on our currency. The eagle has come to represent
our proud nation more than any other symbol after the flag.
The graceful flight of the eagle embodies the spirit of
freedom. Its strong brow and piercing eyes suggest vigilance, intelligence
and courage. The large body and sharp talons convey a quiet power, and
promise a swift and powerful response when provoked.
A Beloved Symbol
Americans were quick to adopt the American
eagle into their lives. It was adapted to furniture, clothing and
architecture. It was featured on coins and military flags. George Washington
wore eagles on the buttons of his coat, and warships, like the USS
Constitution, displayed eagles on their sterns.
Almost two centuries later, this beloved symbol aided
Americans in the conquest of space. As the astronauts reached the surface of
the moon, they thrilled us with the news, "The Eagle has landed."
In recent times, the survival of the American bald eagle was
threatened. Americans rallied around the great American symbol, and interest
in the eagle reached unprecedented levels. With perseverance, care and time,
bald eagles have increased in numbers and returned to many areas where they
had previously disappeared. Recognizing the greatness of this American
symbol, Americans determined that the survival of the bird was essential.
Thankfully, Americans can now proudly observe these majestic birds in their
natural settings.

The cylinder features artwork creating the appearance of
flags waving in the breeze. The stripes are a combination of copper and
silver. The copper embellishment most closely matches the red stripes of the
American flag. Silver stars on the edge of the cylinder represent the starts
in our American flag.
Artisans
specifically commissioned by the Society prepare each 1860 Army with
individual care and attention to the finest detail. The artwork is applied
in 24-karat gold, pure silver and copper.
