Chuck Yeager Tribute

Chuck Yeager
Honoring A World War II Pilot and
The First Man Who Flew
"Faster Than Sound"

He took flight from the jet age to the space age.  Fighter pilot, war hero, courageous test pilot and record-setter.  No single pilot holds as many records as Brigadier General Charles E. "Chuck" Yeager, the man who defined "the right stuff" in aviation.  He is a true American hero.

Now, to honor the career of this legendary American, America Remembers proudly presents the Chuck Yeager Tribute, a working Colt .45 ACP pistol.

During World War II, Chuck Yeager carried the legendary Government Model Colt .45.  In his autobiography, he tells how he relied on his .45 automatic after being shot down in France.  This model occupies a position of respect unparalleled in the world of military firearms.  The noted firearms historian and author R.L. Wilson has written that "more collectors pursue the Model 1911 and its variations than any other automatic Colt."

This Tribute edition is decorated in 24-karat gold and nickel by craftsmen specifically commissioned by America Remembers for this historic Tribute.  The .45 is etched in incredible detail with highlights of Yeager's illustrious career.  So fine is the detailing that you can read the name, "Glamorous Glen" on the nose of the P-51 Mustang. That's a Messerschmitt in the background.  Yeager became an ace by shooting down five in one day.

Chuck Yeager - Left Side

Left side of the slide features Chuck Yeager's portrait in exacting detail with the American Flag flying freely behind him.  His name and the date marking his historic supersonic X-1 flight "Faster then Sound" are also featured in 24-karat gold banners.  The frame bears a depiction of his signature.

Chuck Yeager - Right Side

Right side of the slide features another portrait of Chuck Yeager with "Glamorous Glen" the P-51 Mustang beside him. "An American Hero" and "Chuck Yeager" are featured in banners around the scene.  This Tribute is decorated in nickel and 24-karat gold by craftsman specifically commissioned by America Remembers for this historic Tribute.
