A Tribute To The Bronze Buckaroo
Born and raised in Detroit, Herb Jeffries became America's first black
singing cowboy - overturning the prevailing attitudes of his day about
race, capturing the hearts of youngsters across the country, and
becoming an American legend.
In 1936, the handsome, athletic Jeffries
trained for his future roles at a ranch, learning to round up, brand and
rope cattle. Three movies were completed in as many years: Harlem
on the Prairie, Two Gun Man from Harlem, and in 1938, The Bronze
Buckaroo, which established Herb as an authentic cowboy hero.
