An Officially Authorized Smith & Wesson Model 3 Schofield Revolver

This is the first-ever  project America Remembers has issued under license with Smith & Wesson, and this official authorization is sure to enhance the appeal of the Tribute for firearms enthusiasts across America.  The Smith & Wesson Model 3 is a unique top-break revolver, and is considered one of the classic firearms from the days of the Western frontier.  Many consider it to be the finest revolver ever developed for use astride a galloping horse.

As a "top-break" revolver, the 1875 Schofield could be loaded quicker than other  sidearms of the day.  With the barrel latch released, the barrel could be pulled down and the spent cartridges could be easily ejected.  Colonel Schofield's design relocated the barrel latch from the barrel to the frame.  As a result, a shooter could operate the latch with his thumb and open the revolver for loading and unloading with just one hand.  With practice, a shooter could refill all the chambers at once without looking.  This was a major advantage for a mounted soldier, and provided the Schofield with an advantage over the Colt Peacemaker.

The Native American Legends Tribute is a handsomely decorated Smith & Wesson Model 3 Schofield Revolver, with artwork capturing legendary Native American leaders of the late 1800's.  The cylinder features portraits  of Victorio, Chief Joseph, Crow, Low Dog, Gall and Iron Bear.  Artwork on the barrel features Geronimo, Sitting Bull, Red Cloud and Rain in the Face.

Artwork on the frame captures legendary moments in American history.  The left side features a dramatic image of Geronimo and three of his warriors.  The right side features Red Cloud and members of his delegation on a trip to Washington, D.C.

The entire revolver is decorated by craftsmen specifically commissioned by America Remembers in 24-karat gold, and the artwork is featured in nickel with special blackened  patinaed backgrounds for maximum detail and contrast.
