Right
side features a highly detailed depiction of the Battle of Adobe Walls, with Indian
warriors from various tribes circling and attacking the barren outpost. While buffalo hunters fire their rifles at the
raiders, several warriors attempt to enter the building from the roof. The scene is identified with the legend
Battle of Adobe Walls. Additionally,
a portrait of Quanah Parker in his Comanche war chief headdress is featured to the right, with
the Parker Familys distinctive Star House below.
With its distinctive 22 stars on the roof, it was Quanahs haven until his
death in 1911. The artwork on both sides of
the receiver is framed by flowing scrollwork to complement the illustrations.

Left
side features a portrait of Quanah Parker in traditional Comanche attire with his braids wrapped
in otter fur. To the right is buffalo hunter
and sharpshooter Billy Dixon, an important figure in both the Battle of Adobe Walls and
other battles of the Red River War. Dixon
served as an army scout and received the Medal of Honor for heroic efforts at the Battle
of Buffalo Wallow. Col. Ranald Mackenzie, the
U.S. Army officer who battled Quanah for years, then assisted the war chief as he began
his life on the reservation is also featured. Amid
the portraits, a map of the Texas Panhandle denotes the locations of the battles of the
Red River War and the site of Adobe Walls. To
the left, the legend Quanah Parker Red River War Tribute is featured above an
image of a Comanche Indian hunting a buffalo. |

After twenty-five years of nomadic Indian life,
life on the reservation was as difficult for Quanah as it was for other
Indians, but he responded to the change in a most positive way. He
became a "middle man," encouraging trade with the white man and in
understanding their culture and religion while retaining his ties to
Indian tradition, beliefs, and family. |
The Tribute rifle is issued under Agreement with the Quanah Parker Descendants
Association.
We also greatly acknowledge the assistance of the Friends of the Hutchinson County
Museum, Borger, TX and the Museum of the Great Plains, Lawton, OK.
