Honoring America's Majestic
Elk
|
 |
|
Today, the noble elk are again master of their
habitat, and much of the credit for their restoration lies with the Rocky
Mountain Elk Foundation. With over 130,000 members in every state and 31
countries, the Elk Foundation's conservation projects have enhanced and
conserved over three million acres of prime wildlife habitat.
From their headquarters in Missoula, Montana, the
Elk Foundation is focused upon a singular mission - to ensure the future of elk,
other wildlife and their habitat. Today, loss of habitat is a continuing threat
for all wildlife, including elk. In 2001, the Elk Foundation initiated the "Pass
It On" campaign with a goal of conserving an additional 2 million acres of
critical wildlife habitat by 2005.
Cherished as a magnificent symbol of America's
wide-open spaces and rugged high country, Rocky Mountain elk are a reminder of
an era when wildlife flourished throughout our great nation.
