“Wars may be
fought with weapons,
but they are won by men.”
– General George S. Patton, Jr.

More than two hundred years ago, the United States
Army began as a group of rough militia men armed with muskets. Their
mission was clear: defeat the British and win freedom for a brand new
nation. In the decades that followed, the U.S. Army was called to action
many times, and they never failed to answer the call.
Our Soldiers fought bravely in every major conflict
from the Revolution and the Civil War to both World Wars, Korea,
Vietnam, Afghanistan and Iraq. Generation after generation has built on
the courage, tradition and valor that fatefully began in 1775. The
Army’s mantra is that it has been “invincible in war” throughout our
history. Its contributions to our nation, our freedom and our very way
of life are incalculable and virtually indescribable. Those who served
before and those who serve today share a bond and are part of a great
and proud tradition. Today, American Soldiers are global warriors,
recognized internationally as the world’s most effective fighting force.
Now, America Remembers is proud to salute the history
and heritage of the U.S. Army, and every brave Soldier who has served or
continues to serve our country in duty and in honor, with A Tribute to
the U.S. Army Pistol. Craftsmen commissioned specifically for this
project by America Remembers decorate each working Tribute in stunning
24-karat gold and nickel with a blackened patinaed background to
highlight the details of the artwork. Each Tribute in this exclusive
limited edition is being offered on a Colt® Government Model® Pistol in
caliber .45 ACP, a classic military firearm and the perfect choice for
such an important military issue.
America Remembers is proud to offer this exclusive
Tribute issued in association with the Army Historical Foundation, which
is dedicated to preserving the history and heritage of the American
soldier and to promoting understanding and appreciation of the
contributions made by all members of the U.S. Army – Regular, Reserve
and National Guard – to the security and welfare of America. The Army
Historical Foundation is also dedicated to building a National U.S. Army
Museum to honor America’s oldest branch of service. Your purchase of the
Tribute helps build that museum.
The Official Sidearm of the American Soldier
The Colt M1911 (often referred to as the Colt .45) is
the firearm which best symbolizes the courage and sacrifice of the
United States Army. When it comes to timeless, well-respected American
military pistols, the Colt .45 has little competition. This classic
sidearm with its flat slide and virtually indestructible design is a
paragon of simplicity and function. The Colt .45 survived countless
brutal trench battles of World War I, firefights in the desert, mud and
dirt of World War II, the bitter winters of Korea and the thick jungles
of Vietnam. The pistol has also seen service during the recent fighting
in Kuwait, Iraq and Afghanistan. |
|
Officially adopted by the U.S. Army on March 29, 1911, the Colt .45 was
a workhorse pistol that has survived nearly a century of warfare. It
remained a faithful firearm for America’s armed forces throughout the
greatest military campaigns of the 20th century, serving longer than any
other small arm or weapons system. And thanks to its legendary service
to American troops across the globe, the durable, powerful and easy to
maintain Colt .45 occupies a position of respect, unparalleled in the
world of military firearms.

For over 200 years—no matter how far the battlefield or how fierce the
battle—the soldiers of our United States Army have stood fast on the
front lines. They’ve always been there for us…ready to serve and ready
to sacrifice.
We can never repay or thank all those who have served our country in
duty and in honor, but together we can remember and honor them with this
historic military Tribute. It will stand proudly as a shining example of
your patriotism and will be a constant reminder to future generations of
the honorable legacy of the U.S. Army.

Prominently featured on the left side is a Soldier in the combat uniform
that has become a common sight in the streets of Iraq and in the
mountains of Afghanistan. Behind him, Old Glory with 50 stars flaps with
dignity. On either side there are two banners reading, “Saluting
America’s Soldiers” and “Freedom Is Not Free.” On each side of the
slide near the hammer, an American Bald Eagle is featured with its wings
outstretched. Much like the U.S. Army, the bald eagle has earned a
well-deserved reputation for strength, determination and resilience. The
24-karat gold and nickel artwork is also complemented on both sides by
handsome military panoply featuring classical banners and oak leaves.

Prominently featured on the right is a Soldier clad in the classic World
War II Army combat uniform. Behind him, an American flag with 48 stars
waves proudly. On either side two banners form the phrase, “Eternal
vigilance is the price of freedom.” We all owe our freedom to the
eternal vigilance of the U.S. Army and every single member of the
American military.
