The World War II Golden Anniversary Army Air
Forces Tribute honors the air and ground crews of World War II. It
recreates an era when the hopes and dreams of Americans soared on the
wings of an aerial armada unequaled in all history.
From 1941 to 1945, America's Army Air Forces
rumbled through the skies in unprecedented numbers, a welcome sound of
hope for the people of occupied Europe and the Pacific, a terrible thunder
of doom for the forces of tyranny.
In aerial combat and a campaign of
strategic bombing, the USAAF broke the back of the Axis war effort,
devastating its industries, and downing over 40,000 enemy planes. In
Europe, the USAAF and RAF crippled Hitler's war machine, and in the
Pacific, conducted the firebombing of Tokyo.
The USAAF helped pave the way to victory in
both Europe and the Pacific, and we must never forget the sacrifices made
by these brave servicemen.
Fully Functional Colt
The Tribute is a fully functional Colt .45,
like those issued to USAAF personnel. World War II pilots and crews faced
the constant danger of being shot down while behind enemy lines. They
needed a reliable weapon with range and sturdiness that could fit into
their flight gear.
24-Karat Golden Tribute
The Golden Anniversary US Army Air Forces
Tribute takes the sleek design of this classic American firearm and
embellishes it in a special process. The details are delicately etched on
the gun and nickel plated, then the remainder of the slide is clad in
24-karat gold.
On the slide's right are the emblems of all
sixteen of the Army Air Forces combat units, including the legendary 8th
Air Force, responsible for so many devastating bombardments throughout
Europe, the 5th Air Force, which after near-destruction in the conquest of
the Philippines came back full force to liberate them again, and the 20th
Air Force, which conducted a strategic air offensive against Japan. Behind
each emblem are stories of heroism and sacrifice, from raids in the
furthest corners of the globe to defensive patrols along America's own
shores.
The left side of the slide bears the
inscriptions, "WWII Defenders of Freedom" "Masters of the Sky" "United
States Army Air Forces" and "Into the Wild Blue Yonder." Near the muzzle,
is the inscription "Valor" in a field of stars.
Display Case
An optional walnut display case has been
created to display the Tribute in its full glory. It features a full view
glass-stop, and velvet lining, and contains a replica of the WWII Victory
Medal. A handsome brass plaque can be inscribed with your family name, or
if you wish, your name and military service dates.
