Thompson Submachine Guns
By selecting the legendary Thompson submachine gun, you will receive an American-made collector firearm that was born of the same ingenuity and perseverance that made our country great. For almost 100 years, the mighty Thompson has proved itself in the service of courageous soldiers and lawmen.
In 1915, as the fighting of World War I raged, retired Army General John T. Thompson began research on a weapon that would put more firepower in the hands of Allied men on the frontlines. But the first Thompson submachine guns weren’t ready to ship until after The Great War ended.
In the absence of a global conflict, the Thompson submachine gun was immediately touted as the ultimate crime fighting tool. Unfortunately, many of the Thompson’s biggest fans were the country’s most wanted criminals. But once J. Edgar Hoover’s G-Men got the infamous Tommy Gun in their arsenal, the odds were made a little more even. The Thompson submachine gun allowed them to put the fear of the law into anyone on the other end of the barrel.
After the crime wave of the 1930’s, war erupted and General Thompson’s creation was finally able to fulfill its original mission as a fierce, lightweight, automatic firearm for the infantry. The U.S. military went on to use the Thompson in the Korean War as well as the Vietnam War. To this day the Thompson submachine gun remains one of the most widely recognized and respected American firearms in our nation’s history.
