“The one honor which is mine and mine alone is that of having commanded such an uncompromisible group of Americans the record of whose fortitude, audacity, and valor will endure as long as history lasts.” General George S. Patton, Jr. – 9 May 1945
General George S. Patton, Jr. was larger than life, charismatic, and controversial personality. Throughout his military career, General George S. Patton, Jr. dared great deeds, and inspired the troops serving under his command to achieve far beyond even their own expectations. General George S. Patton, Jr. was the quintessential warrior, patriot, and a brilliant military scholar. General Patton’s speeches were legendary and often inspired the troops who served under his command. In the words of his biographer, George S. Patton, Jr. had “a genius for war.”
America Remembers is proud to offer a tribute to General George S. Patton, Jr. for the accomplishments and indomitable spirit of this outstanding American leader. The concept and design of the Tribute has been officially authorized by the Family of George S. Patton, Jr.
Patton enrolled in Virginia Military Institute, the alma mater of earlier generations of Patton military men. After a year of rigorous study at VMI, Patton received his appointment to West Point. By sheer force of will he was able to excel in every area, and to develop in himself traits of toughness and leadership, in preparation for what he foresaw as his destiny.
Here is a working Colt .45 ACP pistol, with the solid, hand-filling heft that veterans will remember. Craftsmen specifically commissioned by America Remembers decorate each Tribute.

The left side of the slide features two classic portraits of General George S. Patton, Jr. Also featured is a tank, which played such an important role in achieving victory in Europe. General Patton is shown saluting the tanks and tankers in appreciation and respect for their significant contributions to the victory in Europe. Also included are two of his notable quotes:
A Proud Military Tradition.
Patton’s family tree was deeply rooted in military tradition. His ancestors had fought in the Revolutionary War, the Mexican War and the Civil War. One early relative was a surgeon in the French and Indian War. His grandfather, Colonel George S. Patton, raised a company of militia, which became part of the Confederacy’s 22nd Virginia Regiment during the Civil War. His great uncle, Waller Tazewell Patton was killed at Gettysburg. From his earliest childhood, young George Patton was brought up with stories of his ancestors’ military exploits.
The Colt Government Model .45 earned its place in the hearts of America’s fighting men, and we at America Remembers have chosen it as the medium for this historic tribute to General George S. Patton, Jr. In every phase of its conception, design and execution, in every detail of its finish, we have held fast to the goal of creating a proper and long-lasting memorial to a man who many consider as one of our country’s most effective and memorable military leaders.
“THE SOLDIER IS THE ARMY.”
