The Fight That Forged a Nation
The War Between the States is long over, but the years of
conflict that divided a nation will never be forgotten. And now, as our
country marks the 150th anniversary of the Civil War, there has never
been a better time to remember.
Throughout four years of battle, the Civil War would tear the
nation in half. It was a conflict that split our country along a jagged
and bloody battle line that pitted North against South, neighbor
against neighbor and brother against brother. More than three million
men fought for freedom and by war's end in 1865, the struggle had
claimed the lives of more Americans than any other war in history.
But even as the Civil War remains our country's greatest tragedy, it
also stands as our most remarkable triumph. The sacrifice and
courage on both sides helped fulfill a destiny and forge a nation.
In his stirring Gettysburg Address, President Abraham Lincoln
resolved that "the dead shall not have died in vain" and that their
sacrifice and courage would usher in "a new birth of freedom." As
we look back, it's clear that no other time was more instrumental in
defining us as a nation. We entered the war as a country divided but
emerged whole and stronger than ever before. Only after enduring
tragedy and triumph could we truly consider ourselves the United
States of America.
As our country marks the 150th anniversary of the War
Between the States, America Remembers is proud to introduce a
handsome limited edition honoring this milestone in American
history: The Civil War Sesquicentennial Tribute Revolver. This Tribute is a once-in-a-lifetime historically appropriate revolver
honoring and celebrating all of those who paid the ultimate price in
the struggle for freedom on this historic 150th anniversary.
The Legendary Model 1851
Navy Revolver
For the Civil War Sesquicentennial Tribute, we selected the
renowned 1851 Navy Revolver. One of the most popular sidearms of
its day, the legendary Colt 1851 was coveted equally by Northern
and Southern soldiers. Time and again, Samuel Colt's masterpiece
proved itself in battle and earned its rightful place as a true American
icon. There was little debate when it came to selecting this model as
the perfect handgun to commemorate one of the most defining events
in American history.
With its 7-inch octagonal barrel and sleek frame, the Model
1851 Navy remains one of the most sought after and beloved
firearms of all time. Each Tribute available in the edition is a
meticulously-detailed recreation of the legendary Colt 1851 Navy
Revolver, created by the incomparable artisans of A. Uberti. For
decades, their craftsmen have combined modern high-grade
materials with time-honored methods of finishing to create exquisite,
working reproductions of history's greatest firearms.
Craftsmen commissioned specifically by America Remembers
decorate each Tribute in stunning 24-karat gold over blued steel,
handsomely capturing this momentous occasion.
The left side of the barrel features
a 24-karat gold decorated banner, identifying
the revolver as the "American Civil War 150th Anniversary
Tribute." Also featured on the left side of the Tribute are
the crossed flags of the Union and Confederate forces. Complementing
the overall design are lustrously, hand-polished walnut grips.

The right side of the barrel features a
famous phrase used by Abraham Lincoln
during an 1858 speech "A House Divided Against
Itself Cannot Stand." Lincoln borrowed this axiom from the
Bible as a warning about the mounting tensions between the Northern and
Southern states. After his election to the presidency, Lincoln continued to cut
through the differences that divided our nation and to remind us of what was
necessary to restore and repair the broken union. Both sides of the 24-karat gold
decorated frame feature a banner with the dates of the Civil War, "1861-1865."

The centerpiece of the
Tribute is the lavishly
illustrated cylinder, featured in 24-karat
gold and meticulously decorated with an epic
scene depicting a clash between Union and
Confederate soldiers. From flags to uniforms
to facial expressions, no detail has been
overlooked in this breathtaking scene,
reminiscent of the carnage during the Battle of Antietam. The
September 17, 1862 showdown between the Northern forces of
General George McClellan and the Southern soldiers under General
Robert E. Lee was the bloodiest single-day battle of the war.
