“In Dixie Land I’ll take my stand, to live and die in Dixie”

dixie_cover

The names of the leaders and many of the battles from the War Between the States are permanently enshrined in American history. Many weapons, uniforms, photographs, letters and other artifacts from the war have survived, reverently handed down from generation to generation.

These serve today as cherished family heirlooms, and as reminders of forefathers who honorably served during the war. The War Between the States lasted from 1861–1865. During these four years, the country faced its single greatest trial – a fearsome conflict that threatened to forever shatter the fragile union of states that was not yet a century old. In the end, the war did not destroy our country, but forged a stronger nation, united as never before, and ready to take its place as a major world power.

dixie_leeToday, interest in this monumental era is as strong as ever. Many of the battles during the war took place in Confederate states, and many of these battlefields are permanently preserved, often right near where we live and work. Today, the spirit of the Confederacy remains an important part of Southern heritage.

There are many symbols, which represent the Confederate Cause, and one of the most cherished is the phrase “Dixie.” The song “Dixie” was written and first performed in 1859, only two years before the war began. The origin of the term “Dixie” is not completely known. However, we do know that the song “Dixie” popularized the term “Dixie” and that it became a popular song for Confederate forces during the war.

The chorus of the song certainly captured the spirit of all the dedicated soldiers, leaders and citizens of the Confederacy.

Then I wish I was in Dixie,
Hooray! Hooray!
In Dixie Land I’ll take my stand,
to live and die in Dixie,
Away, Away, Away down south in Dixie,
Away, Away, Away down south in Dixie.

Today, more than 140 years after Lee’s gallant soldiers resumed their lives as citizens, “God Bless Dixie” is a cherished term of endearment which continues to remind so many of the proud heritage of those who proudly fought during the war. Like the phrase “God Bless America” which unites all Americans, “God Bless Dixie” represents a special feeling of pride, love and respect shared by Southerners. It represents respect for the past, but equally important, it represents a love for the natural beauty of the South, and for the special camaraderie shared by those who live and work in the South. Now, this handsome Tribute can serve to honor the past, and keep the spirit of Dixie alive for the future.

America Remembers proudly presents the “God Bless Dixie” Tribute Revolver, a handsomely decorated revolver celebrating the soldiers, leaders, and citizens of the Confederate States, their beloved “Dixie Land,” and today’s continuing spirit of Southern pride. For the Tribute, we selected the classic Colt Model 1860 Army Revolver, a favorite sidearm for both Confederate and Union forces during the war.

Introduced shortly before the war, the Colt Model 1860 Army Revolver was a popular firearm throughout the war. With its lightweight design and heavyweight firepower, the Model 1860 was remarkably accurate and powerful.

Designed for .44 caliber ammunition, it was much more powerful than the .36 caliber Colt Model 1851 Navy revolver which was also used extensively during the war. Today, the God Bless Dixie Tribute Revolver recaptures the sleek, powerful, efficient design the soldiers so admired, and adds detailed gold enhancements they could scarcely have imagined.

Our Tribute revolver, crafted in modern, high-strength steel by Colt Blackpowder Arms Company, is an accurate – and shootable – reproduction of the classic 19th century original.

Each revolver is decorated with artwork in 24-karat gold and nickel by craftsmen commissioned specifically by America Remembers for this historic project. In the true spirit of the lavish presentation pieces for which Samuel Colt was renowned, our Tribute is resplendent with hand-polished 24-karat gold and nickel decorated artwork on the cylinder, frame and barrel. In addition, our artisans polish and gold plate the trigger, hammer, backstrap, trigger guard, and sight, adding an additional touch of elegance to this museum-quality Tribute. The frame and barrel are handsomely blued and the grips are polished walnut.

A Fitting Tribute To The Men In Gray

Located on both sides of the frame is the “CSA” emblem – a symbol which was proudly emblazoned on belt buckles and military buttons of officers and enlisted men of the Confederate Army. The right side features artillerymen and cannons.

The frame and barrel are blued and polished to a mirror finish, then lavishly decorated with elegant 24-karat gold and nickel. The trigger, trigger guard, backstrap, hammer, and sight are also polished and finished in lustrous 24-karat gold.

Like the original Colts, each revolver includes the patent number stamped on the left side of the frame and the Colt address on the barrel.
