The Western Spirit lives on in the heart and soul of one of America’s favorite action stars. Whether as a rugged lawman on the silver screen, a larger-than-life action hero on film, a world-famous martial arts champion, or an outspoken advocate for at-risk youth, Chuck Norris continues to embody the cowboy ethos.
Born in a small Oklahoma town, Norris became a well-known martial arts champion, and went on to star in movies and television series. Throughout his enduring career, Norris has portrayed a wide variety of exceptional action heroes in both film and television. As his career soared, he remained humble and passionate about his faith, principles, and love for America. In addition to portraying men of strength and courage, Norris is a tireless teacher, author, and humanitarian.
The Rise of an American Icon
Carlos Ray Norris was born poor in 1940. Fascinated by the cowboy heroes of the era, he saw himself in the image of John Wayne, Gene Autry, and Roy Rogers. The rousing tales of the Old West taught him that actions speak louder than words and good can triumph over evil. These principles became instilled in him and would serve as a source of inspiration. With a strong drive and ambition to always better himself, Carlos joined the United States Air Force in 1958. He soon found himself stationed halfway around the world in South Korea. It was there, at the Osan Air Base, that he received the nickname “Chuck.” It was also during this time that he discovered martial arts. Norris became a dedicated student of Tang Soo Do.
Norris brought his new found skills home with him to the United States and began teaching. He founded the United Fighting Arts Federation where he proudly displays his code of honor reflecting his own personal commitment to honor, loyalty, and respect.
He quickly became a superstar of the martial arts world and holds the distinction of being a six-time undefeated World Professional Middleweight Karate Champion.
After conquering the karate world, he took his talents to the big screen and starred in a number of hit action movies. Then, in 1993, another incredible opportunity came knocking. Walker, Texas Ranger was Norris’s invitation into that Old West tradition he fell in love with during his childhood years. Norris portrayed Cordell Walker, a tough, straight-talking Texas Ranger with good old-fashioned cowboy values.
When the show ended, the spirited and tireless Norris devoted himself to his family and his non-profit organization: The KickStart Kids Foundation is dedicated to teaching young, at-risk students responsibility and character development.
Throughout his life, Norris has been an unstoppable force for good. He has always shown that he is one of the good guys. There is no doubt that he will continue fighting the good fight, sealing his reputation as a true American icon and legend.
