“The greater the risk to wetlands and waterfowl,
the greater our resolve.”
— John W. Newman, President of Ducks Unlimited Inc.
Part of what makes a great waterfowler is the ability to wait. You stay quiet, watch the skies, and listen to the wind. Your mind wanders and you know the waiting is the hardest part, but you remind yourself that the waiting will pay off. These days, it often does, but that wasn’t always the case. In 1936, a group of dedicated outdoorsmen grew tired of waiting for America’s declining duck population to bounce back on its own. Every season was growing bleaker and bleaker. Ducks and geese were simply disappearing. These men decided that the key to saving endangered waterfowl was to restore their habitat. Instead of waiting around for someone else to do something about it, they volunteered to do the job themselves.
The creation of Ducks Unlimited is an incredible tale of dedication, determination, and inspiration. Since its formation in the days of the Great Depression, Ducks Unlimited has blossomed into one of the most successful wildlife conservation efforts in history. Their victories in conservation have helped restore North America’s habitats and wetlands, resulting in larger populations of waterfowl and ensuring the preservation of America’s precious natural resources for future generations.
The founders of Ducks Unlimited knew when the wait was over and action was required, and for you, that moment is now. America Remembers is proud to introduce an exciting 75th Anniversary, limited-edition firearm designed to honor Ducks Unlimited, America’s conservation pioneers, with The Ducks Unlimited 75th Anniversary Tribute Shotgun. To mark this impressive milestone, we have chosen the ever-popular Remington Model 870 Express Pump Shotgun. The Model 870 is a legend in the world of waterfowling and makes an ideal canvas for custom artwork celebrating the 75th Anniversary of Ducks Unlimited.
Craftsmen commissioned specifically for this project by America Remembers polish and decorate the receiver of each working Remington in sparkling 24-karat gold with an overall blued background. In magnificent detail, this handsome Tribute captures the passion for waterfowling that has helped DU change the world.
A Waterfowling Legend – The Remington Model 870
Few shotguns have earned more respect from hunters and shooters than the legendary Remington Model 870. Over the decades it has become “the shotgun that waterfowlers trust” for good reason. Much like a faithful retriever, the Remington 870 is rugged, dependable, and lives for the hunt. This is the very first time we’ve offered a super magnum shotgun chambered for 3½” 12-gauge shells (the Tribute can also cycle lighter 2¾” and 3” rounds interchangeably). It is also the first time we have offered a Tribute with a camo finish! The versatile 870 Express sports an impressive 28” barrel, HiViz® fiber-optics sights and the Wingmaster HD “Over Decoys” Rem Choke tube for unmatched long range power.
On the right side of the receiver, you’ll find a detailed recreation of a vintage photo from one of DU’s earliest success stories. In the picture you can see a historic photo of “Big Grass Marsh Duck Factory No. 1.”, DU’s first project. The Big Grass Marsh was a massive wetland in Manitoba, Canada that had been drained for agriculture use just after the turn of the 20th century, but crops wouldn’t grow and the area became a desert of dust storms and peat fires. Ducks Unlimited came to the rescue in 1939, building a system of dams and dikes to bring the “wet” back to the ruined wetlands. It took years to recover, but the “Duck Factory No. 1” was a major success.
On the left of the receiver, you’ll find the official logo for the Ducks Unlimited 75th Anniversary, marking seven and a half decades of conservation accomplishment. Next to the logo, and on both sides of the receiver, artists have captured the majestic image of waterfowl in flight. On the right side, a pair of mallards head for the horizon. On the left, two ducks come in for a marsh landing. Whether these birds show up in your crosshairs or simply fly over on a sunny afternoon, there is no more welcome sight to a waterfowler.
This Tribute features Mossy Oak® Duck Blind camo coverage that blends perfectly with marshes, riverbanks, reeds, and almost anywhere a duck or goose hunter wants to stay hidden from view. The shotgun’s polished and blued receiver provides an ideal canvas for the 24-karat gold artwork inspired by historic images from the files of Ducks Unlimited.
