If you were a hunter in 1936, you probably wished you weren’t. The season was painfully short. The weather disaster known as the Dust Bowl was taking a devastating toll on the wetlands that waterfowl need for nesting and breeding. The duck population was dwindling.
Thanks to a small group of passionate outdoorsmen, things were about to get a whole lot better. The men gathered in a fishing lodge in New York to remedy the problem themselves, and the next year, in 1937, they founded Ducks Unlimited. Today, DU is the world’s largest private waterfowl and wetlands conservation organization with over one million supporters dedicated to preserving the habitat of North America’s waterfowl. And the organization and their supporters have been very successful. DU has contributed to the conservation of more than 14 million acres of prime wildlife habitat.

For this Tribute, we selected the Weatherby SA-08 Deluxe 12-Gauge shotgun, a classic autoloader and favorite among sportsmen. Craftsman commissioned specifically for this project by America Remembers have created a museum-quality masterpiece, polishing and decorating each Tribute with artwork in lustrous 24-karat gold with a striking nickel background and blackened patinaed accents to highlight the details in the artwork. With the male’s distinctive green head, the mallard is America’s most common duck, and is found throughout all four flyways. This Tribute features four images of mallards.
The right side of the receiver displays a drake, with wings outstretched, along with a hen gliding across a pond. Elegant scrollwork frames the artwork along with a banner reading “World Leader in Wetlands Conservation”. All artwork is featured in 24-karat gold on the nickel-decorated receiver.
The left side of the receiver features three scenes of mallards, America’s most recognized waterfowl species. The center features three mallards in flight. Flanking the center image, you’ll find a drake landing gracefully on a lake, and on the right you’ll see a close-up of a pair of mallards positioned next to the iconic Ducks Unlimited logo.
