The right side of the frame features a portrait of Jesse James captured in a combination of 24-karat gold, nickel, and blueing. Behind him is a depiction of one of the James gangs many train robberies. Inscribed on the barrel in gold is the legend “Jesse James, American Outlaw.” Handsome scrollwork completes the design, along with a banner bearing the dates of Jesse’s birth and death on the frame.
Left side of the frame features a portrait of Frank James with a scene of the James gang holding up a stagecoach, all captured in 24-karat gold, nickel, and blueing. The barrel reads “Frank James, American Outlaw.” Also on the frame is a banner in 24-karat gold bearing the dates of Frank’s birth and death. Again, handsome scrollwork adds a finishing touch to the revolver.
The cylinder reveals important dates in the lives of Frank and Jesse James. Legends commemorate the 1847 birth of Jesse James, the brothers’ service under “Bloody Bill” Anderson in the Civil War, a train robbery, a bank robbery, the disastrous 1876 attempt on the First National Bank in Northfield, Minnesota, and Jesse’s death in 1882 at the hands of Bob Ford.
