“Once a Marine, Always a Marine” exemplifies the strong ties that bind America’s elite fighting force. For more than 225 years, the Corps has forged a legacy of valor with heroism and sacrifice. It is a fellowship that connects every U.S. Marine – past, present and future.
In Vietnam, the United States Marines fought courageously against a determined and elusive enemy, highly skilled in the art of guerrilla warfare. They fought fierce battles from Dong Ha to Con Thien, and from Khe Sanh to Hue City. But because they were Marines, they pushed forward through every remote village and down every treacherous city street.
The Vietnam battlefield was an ever-changing tangle of thick forests, murky swamps and overgrown jungles. Marines on patrol had to watch for mines, snipers, and primitive, but deadly, booby traps crafted by the Viet Cong. They were never sure which “civilian” was actually an assassin in disguise.
For centuries, Marines fought side by side on foreign shores, in all corners of the world. From “the halls of Montezuma to the shores of Tripoli,” from the Delta to the DMZ, the Marines have always been there when America needed them, upholding their storied tradition of honor, courage and commitment. The Vietnam War was the longest war in the history of the Marine Corps. And those brutal years exacted a high cost, with more than 13,000 Marines killed and 88,000 wounded. We owe a debt to all who served. We must never forget all of those who sacrificed, including those who were injured, those who suffered as prisoners of war, and every warrior who paid the ultimate price fighting for freedom.

Detailed Vietnam battle scenes leap from the blued steel background, accented in stunning 24-karat gold and nickel.
Featured on the left of the pistol is a banner, which reads, “United States Marines Re-Supply Firebase.” Scattered throughout the country, firebases provided artillery support for units in the field. Banking in from above, a CH-46 Sea Knight helicopter drops a payload of supplies. In the center, “Marines Secure Hue City, Vietnam” is inscribed. The struggle for Hue was one of the fiercest battles of the war. Marines crouch behind crumbling walls to tend to the wounded in the central artwork, while heavy street-fighting is depicted to the right. The Battle of Hue lasted four weeks and cost 142 Marines their lives. Also featured on the left is the official seal of the Marine Corps Association, your assurance that each Tribute in the edition is authorized by the Association.
On the right side, there is a Marine positioned with his M-16 beside a gold banner that reads “Da Nang.” American combat troops arrived in 1965 to defend the U.S. airfield at Da Nang. To his right, Marines on patrol make their way along rice paddy dikes, familiar terrain for Marines in Vietnam. Pictured in the center is a banner that reads “Marines Man the 105 mm Howitzer.” Used in World War II and Korea, the 105-mm Howitzer also proved a valuable weapon in Vietnam. At the muzzle end, a squad of Marines wades through the swamp above a banner that reads “Dong Ha.”
Your Leatherneck Vietnam Tribute Pistol will arrive in a luxuriously lined custom display case with an engraved brass plaque.
