Honoring Confederate “Legends in Gray”

America Remembers

General Robert E. Lee and General Stonewall Jackson forged a partnership as one of the greatest battlefield duos in military history. On their own, they rank among the most brilliant military minds of all time. Together, they defied the odds and led the Confederate forces to victory in some major battles of the Civil War, including Second Manassas, Fredericksburg, and Chancellorsville.

As we remember the 150th Anniversary of the War Between the States, America Remembers is proud to mark this milestone with a Tribute based on artwork from the master Civil War artist, Mort Künstler. Issued exclusively by America Remembers, The Mort Künstler Heroes of the Confederacy Tribute Revolver is a spectacular Tribute to two of Mort’s favorite Civil War subjects – Robert E. Lee and Stonewall Jackson.

America Remembers

America’s Foremost Civil War Artist

Mort Künstler’s status as America’s foremost Civil War artist has earned him recognition from art collectors, museums, Civil War organizations, and Civil War enthusiasts. Mort Künstler’s vibrant work helps bring our country’s history alive, ensuring it will never be forgotten. The centerpiece is the magnificent 24-karat gold decorated cylinder that showcases artwork recreated from two paintings selected specifically by Mort Künstler for this historic Tribute: Tactics and Strategy and Night Crossing. Both scenes are set within an elegant oval frame and decorated with two crossed sabers and the distinctive “CS” buckle worn by the Army of the Confederacy.

America Remembers

For this historic Tribute, America Remembers selected a powerful revolver from the Civil War era as the canvas for Mort Künstler’s spectacular art. The 1858 Remington New Model Army Revolver was a six-shot percussion revolver built for Civil War combat and was a preferred handgun for a variety of reasons including the speed at which the revolver could be reloaded.

Among men in the field, the New Model Army was coveted by soldiers on both sides because of its toughness, accuracy, and superior stopping power. The Mort Künstler Heroes of the Confederacy Tribute is issued on a working recreation of the classic New Model Army revolver, produced for us by the master craftsmen of A. Uberti, world renowned as the premier maker of historical firearm recreations. Craftsmen commissioned specifically for this project by America Remembers decorate each working black powder revolver in lustrous 24-karat gold and nickel. It is a gleaming, museum-worthy tribute to the greatest heroes of the South.

On the right side, you will find the artist’s stylish signature further identifying this Tribute as an authentic and official Mort Künstler creation. Mort Künstler Heroes of the Confederacy Tribute Revolver

America Remembers

In a scene taken from Night Crossing, the Confederate Army is returning back to the safety of Virginia after the epic Battle of Antietam. The job of crossing the Potomac River posed a challenge due to the large number of men, horses, and artillery crossing the river. Throughout the ordeal, both Lee and Jackson remained calm and in control. As pictured here, high atop their horses, they maintain an unwavering sense of focus. No matter how hectic and dangerous, both men showed confidence and discipline. They showed exactly what it meant to be true leaders and were an inspiration to their troops.

Night Crossing

In the scene from Tactics and Strategy, Lee and Jackson confer during the famous “cracker box” conference. It would be their last formal meeting as Stonewall Jackson would be mortally wounded at Chancellorsville. In the original painting, the two men talk by the firelight in the early morning hours. Together, they planned the famous flank attack that turned the Battle of Chancellorsville in their favor.
