“Duty is the sublimest word in our language. Do your duty in all things. You cannot do more. You should never wish to do less.” – Robert E. Lee
In 1861, as the South prepared for war, thousands of men came forward to fight. The War Between the States was a dark time that set brother against brother and brought bloodshed to once peaceful American towns. But the same brutal fire that roared from cannons and scorched farmland also forged some of the most brilliant military leaders in history. General Lee and his fellow commanders in gray defied all odds by winning battles against a larger and better equipped Union army. The cunning strategy and quick action of men, such as Stonewall Jackson and J.E.B. Stuart, helped the South strike hard against the North, thwarting the Union Army with guerrilla tactics and pure guts. The Southern soldiers established themselves as a force to be reckoned with and opposing generals quickly learned that underestimating the power of the Confederate forces could be a fatal mistake.
Now, to honor the heroic legacy of the Confederacy’s greatest commanders, America Remembers is proud to introduce an exclusive new Tribute: The Robert E. Lee and His Officers Tribute Rifle. For the Tribute, we selected the legendary Henry Rifle, considered by many as the most technologically effective firearm available during the War and held in the highest esteem by both Confederate and Union forces. The rifles for this Tribute are detailed recreations of the Henry Rifle, each produced by the incomparable artisans of A. Uberti, whose master craftsmen have reproduced the greatest firearms of history for decades. Craftsmen commissioned specifically by America Remembers decorate each Tribute in stunning 24-karat gold and nickel artwork with a blackened patinaed background to highlight the details of the artwork, featuring legendary military leaders of the Confederate States of America.
The War Between the States ushered in a new era of military firepower, with repeating rifles and revolvers replacing ball-and-powder single shot firearms. Introduced first to Union troops during the War, the legendary Henry rifle would become a feared and coveted weapon among soldiers on both sides of the conflict.

The right side features a portrait of General Nathan Forrest, who rose quickly to become one of the Confederacy’s most feared cavalry officers. Forrest preferred to strike hard and fast, and often his troops would find their commander right beside them in the thick of battle. The center features a stunning recreation of George Bagby Matthews’ 1907 lithograph, “Lee and His Generals.” Also featured is a portrait of Colonel John Singleton Mosby. Known as “The Gray Ghost,” Mosby was notorious for his lightning fast raids and his uncanny ability to ‘disappear’ and elude his Union foes. More than 1,900 men became part of “Mosby’s Rangers,” a hit-and-run force whose exploits were legendary.
Featured prominently in the center of the left side is Robert E. Lee. As commander of the Confederate Army, Lee proved an inspiring leader and worthy adversary. To the right of Lee is General J.E.B. Stuart, whose expertise at gathering information about the North made him invaluable to Lee during the war. In the central panel is a portrait of General Thomas “Stonewall” Jackson, Lee’s most trusted officer. Jackson secured his place in military history thanks to his successful Valley Campaign of 1862 and his performance as a corps commander in the Army of Northern Virginia under Lee. The left side also features General George Pickett, who led his “Game Cock Brigade” to victory in battles at Williamsburg, Seven Pines and Gaines’ Mill. But he is probably most famous for “Pickett’s Charge,” the ill-fated offensive at Gettysburg that bears his name. Also featured is General James Longstreet, who earned a reputation as an expert defensive strategist, and his tactics proved sound in turning back Union forces at the Battle of Fredericksburg.
