One hundred sixty years ago, Captain Samuel H. Walker and Samuel Colt met to discuss a new, more powerful revolver that would revolutionize firearms history. Captain Walker was very familiar with Samuel Colt’s Paterson revolver and wanted to discuss a recommendation for improving the performance of the revolver.
As you may recall, in 1844, Samuel Walker was one of sixteen courageous Texas Rangers who, though heavily outnumbered, nevertheless vanquished eighty fierce Comanche warriors.
Their secret that day? The new and revolutionary five-shot Colt Paterson revolver that could shoot over and over again. Truly a remarkable achievement at the time.
And yet, Lieutenant Walker knew then that this revolver wasn’t the ideal weapon he and the other Rangers needed. There was no attached hammer, the sights were primitive, and in Walker’s opinion, the revolver was too fragile to suit a Texas Ranger. He knew this handgun could be improved … and in 1847, he, Colonel Samuel Colt, and Eli Whitney, Jr., teamed up to do just that.
As a result of their meeting, history would be changed forever, and the revolver that bears the name of Captain Walker would become one of the most famous firearms in the world.
Today, America Remembers announces an exciting new project, which commemorates the legendary 1847 Walker Revolver that revolutionized gun making history and established Samuel Colt as a master gun maker – and larger-than-life firearms legend. Designed in conjunction with author and historian Dennis Adler and master engraver Andrew Bourbon, the deluxe hand-engraved edition is limited to 100 cased revolvers.
Each revolver in the edition is produced by Colt Blackpowder Arms Co. We feel very fortunate to have obtained revolvers for this historic edition, since it is no longer possible to obtain Walker revolvers from Colt Blackpowder Arms Co.
Each Samuel H. Walker Tribute Revolver bears the Colt barrel address, “US 1847” on the right barrel lug, Sam Colt’s signature hand-engraved in gold script on the backstrap, a high-relief, 18-karat gold bust of Captain Walker hand-inlaid on the left recoil shield, and Walker’s signature, hand-engraved in gold, on the left barrel lug.
This historic Walker Colt is hand-finished with a brilliant case colored frame and loading lever, high-polished blued barrel and backstrap accented by nitrite blue screws and wedge. The Walker cylinder is finished in the white, as were the original Walker Colts. Craftsmen specifically commissioned by America Remembers decorate each Tribute.
Colonel Colt sent Captain Walker two presentation Walker revolvers which were delivered by a dispatch rider and presented to him on the battlefront. Tragically, only four days after receiving his powerful six-shooters, Walker lost his life in battle at Huamantla. Captain Walker’s presentation revolvers are now in a private collection, and were featured in a recently issued book titled “Fine Colts – The Dr. Joseph A. Murphy Collection.”
This Samuel H. Walker Tribute Revolver is truly one of the most exclusive editions we have ever offered. With only 100 available, I encourage you to place your order now.
