“I must say as to what I have seen of Texas, it is the garden spot of the world… it is a fortune to any man to come here.”
Davy Crockett, 1836
The story of Texas is the story of men who showed unwavering courage in the face of overwhelming odds. It’s the story of extraordinary men who fought for freedom, no matter the cost. They were the kind of men who looked beyond hundreds of thousands of acres of unforgiving, dangerous country and saw… opportunity. From the courageous sacrifice of the Alamo defenders to the mythic exploits of the Texas Rangers, the Lone Star State has a long history of building bigger-than-life heroes. Their names instantly bring to mind the thrill and adventure of the Old West: Sam Houston, Davy Crockett, Jim Bowie, William Travis, Samuel Walker and Stephen Austin.
Now America Remembers is pleased to offer an exclusive new Tribute, honoring the great state of Texas and some of the legendary men who paved the way for the 28th state: The Texan Tribute Walker Revolver. This Tribute is issued on a working black/powder Walker Revolver in .44 caliber, featuring artwork in honor of notable Texans. The firearm is a faithful reproduction of Samuel Colt’s legendary revolver produced for us by the incomparable artisans of A. Uberti. Craftsmen commissioned specifically by America Remembers have decorated the Tribute in stunning 24-karat gold and nickel with a blackened patinaed background to highlight the details of the artwork. Each Tribute is a legendary reminder of the vision and courage of those who created prosperity on the plains and stands as a fitting tribute to the mighty Lone Star State.
The Legendary Colt Walker Revolver
As war with Mexico loomed, former Ranger and current U.S. Army Captain Samuel H. Walker was determined to arm his men with Colts. When the Mexican War began in 1846, Walker headed to New York City to collaborate with Samuel Colt on the design of a new, more powerful revolver. The result was the formidable U.S. Model 1847, the largest handgun ever produced by the Colonel’s company. And the revolver was so big that Colt himself reportedly said, “It would take a Texan to shoot it.” Appropriately, the gunsmith dubbed his creation the “Walker.”
The impressive and timeless Colt Walker Revolver, developed at the request of Captain Walker during the Mexican-American War, shall forever stand as a Colt treasure. Larger and more powerful than any revolver of its time, the Walker was an impressive weapon for an even more impressive territory, and it was a natural choice for this historic Tribute honoring the unique history of Texas. Today it continues to captivate collectors and firearm enthusiasts alike.

The story of Texas is the story of America. Its founding remains one of the most enduring and inspiring periods in our nation’s history. Now is your opportunity to honor the Lone Star State and the men who made it great with your own Texan Tribute Walker Revolver.
Left side of the cylinder features the familiar outline of the state of Texas with its iconic single star featured prominently in the center. The left side of the frame features American folk hero, Davy Crockett. Stories of his frontier exploits helped Crockett become a celebrity, but the famous backwoodsman was also a dedicated military man. A few months after moving to Texas in 1835, Crockett volunteered to help William Travis defend the Alamo. He fought to the death against the Mexican assault and became an enduring American legend.
Featured on the left side is a portrait of Sam Houston, who served as Commander-in-Chief of the volunteer army during the Texas Revolution, most notably defeating Santa Anna’s forces at San Jacinto, and he was twice elected as President of the Republic of Texas. To this day, Houston remains one of the most revered figures in the state’s history.
Right side of the cylinder features the fabled Texas longhorn, symbolizing the dangerous Longhorn drives of the 1800s, which helped popularize the legend of the Texas cowboys as rugged folk heroes. The right side of the frame features Samuel H. Walker, a captain in the Texas Rangers as well as the namesake and co-creator of the Walker Colt revolver. Though he died young, Walker packed plenty of service into his 32 years. But it was during the Mexican-American War that the young Walker was killed in the Battle of Huamantla. Also featured on the right is a portrait of Stephen Austin, best known as the “Father of Texas.” He worked tirelessly to establish a peaceful existence for his colonists and for all citizens of Texas. Following the revolution, he accepted a position as the Secretary of State for the Republic of Texas, but died while in office.
On the backstrap you’ll find William Travis, commander of the Republic of Texas forces during the Battle of the Alamo. The courageous sacrifice made by Travis and every defender of the Alamo spurred fellow Texans to victory. “The Texan” is also prominently featured.
