In celebration of the considerable accomplishments of the Texas Rangers, both past and present, America Remembers is proud to present this massive handgun whose design was directly influenced by Samuel Walker, a Texas Ranger.
The Texas Rangers have earned a legendary reputation for valor, integrity, and dedication.
They brought law and order to an untamed frontier, riding herd on rustlers, renegades and hostile Indians, and kept the peace along the turbulent border and in the boomtowns. Since their founding in 1823, the Texas Rangers have earned a legendary reputation for valor, integrity, and dedication. Today, the tradition continues – the Texas Rangers are the epitome of an elite modern law enforcement agency, using state-of-the-art tools and technology to protect and serve the people of Texas.
In celebration of the considerable accomplishments of the members of this fabled organization, both past and present, America Remembers is proud to announce the Texas Ranger Walker Colt Revolver. This massive handgun is especially appropriate because its design was directly influenced by Samuel Walker, a Texas Ranger who had used Colt’s earlier Paterson pistols against the Comanches. His practical recommendations to Colt in 1846 resulted in the world’s first truly effective military revolver. Walker himself observed that the Walker revolver was “as effective as a common rifle at 100 yards and superior to a musket even at 200.” The Walker revolvers were introduced during the Mexican War, and were a major breakthrough for repeating firearms.
Our Tribute revolver, crafted of modern, high-strength steel by Colt Blackpowder Arms Company, is an accurate–and shootable–reproduction of the rare 19th century original, authorized by the Texas Ranger Hall of Fame and Museum in Waco, Texas. Each revolver is decorated with artwork in 24-karat gold by craftsmen commissioned specifically by America Remembers for this historic project. The generous proportions of this revolver lend themselves well to a portrayal of Texas Ranger history and legendary Rangers.
The unfluted cylinder features W.L. Ormsby’s original engraving, highlighted in gold, depicting a battle in which a small band of Rangers, armed with Colt Patersons, easily defeated a far larger group of Comanche raiders.
Etched in 24-karat gold on the left side of the barrel are the legendary Rangers Samuel Walker and John Coffee Hays, flanking a detailed group photograph dating from the late 1800’s.
On the right side are shown William A. “Big Foot” Wallace and W.J. “Bill” McDonald, who is credited with the Ranger motto, “No man in the wrong can stand up against a fellow that’s in the right and keeps on a-comin.”
Both sides of the barrel feature the name “Texas Rangers” surrounded by elegant scrollwork. In the true spirit of the lavish presentation pieces for which Samuel Colt was renowned, our tribute is resplendent with hand-polished 24-karat gold decoration throughout the trigger guard, trigger, backstrap, barrel wedge, and even the action screws.
The frame, hammer, and loading lever are all authentically color case hardened, and the grips are polished walnut.
The backstrap features the Texas Ranger Hall of Fame and Museum logo plus a classic 19th century scroll engraving pattern.
