Honoring Plains Indians
America Remembers is proud to sponsor projects honoring American heroes, as well as legendary historical moments and individuals. We cannot change history, but we can do our part to honor those whose contributions have been overlooked or distorted. Today, America’s special recognition is being paid to the storied heritage of Native Americans. The lives of the American Indians are a special part of our heritage, and I am pleased that we can recognize the Plains Indians with this tribute.
The lives of the Plains Indians revolved around the massive herds of buffalo that were a main source of food, clothing and shelter. Whole tribes moved to follow the herds, and tales of bravery in the hunt became a central element in their lives and the selection of their leaders.
On both sides of the pistol frame, we recognize the buffalo. On the left side, highlighted in 24-karat gold, you will see a hunting party on horseback among a herd of buffalo. In the foreground two braves draw closer to one of the buffalo, and aim the killing-shot.
The right side of the pistol frame features two majestic buffalo on the Western Plains. The buffalo are highlighted in 24-karat gold, and the background is nickel. The Indians felt a kinship to this powerful and noble beast, honoring it spiritually and in traditional dance. But to settlers it was the object of sport at best, a mere nuisance at worst. Sadly, buffalo were slaughtered by the thousands, dwindling their numbers from around 20 million to near extinction.
On the recoil shield, you will see a majestic Indian chief. The chief is wearing a traditional buffalo skull cap with horns. The backstrap is also decorated in nickel and 24-karat gold. A diamond war shield is shown with symbolic eagle feathers, beads and tepee.
The blued steel barrel is highlighted with 24-karat gold lettering. On the left side is the inscription “The American Indian” and on the right, the revolvers edition number, from 1 to 300, is featured in gold. The cylinder and frame are profusely etched and decorated in 24-karat gold with decorative scroll and symbols of the Plains Indians.
Each pistol features hand-fitted genuine stag grips. The pistol will arrive in an elegant, luxuriously lined display case. The lid of the case allows for easy viewing, and also serves to protect the pistol from dust.
