A Man of Country, a Man of Faith, and a Man of War
America will never have another military leader like General George S. Patton, Jr. He was a visionary leader, a true patriot, and a fierce warrior. Patton, Jr. was a military genius whose entire life was spent in preparation for battle. Fighting for freedom was the fulfillment of his life’s destiny.
During World War II, he seemed fearless, unstoppable, and even bulletproof. In combat, Patton was a master of mechanized warfare. His speed and aggression on the battlefield made him unstoppable. His leadership and strategic vision made him one of the most successful and effective U.S. field commanders of any war.
It’s reported that some German generals admitted that he was the American field commander they most feared. He didn’t just win battles, he devastated the enemy. His decisive victories in North Africa, Sicily, across France and into Germany played a pivotal role in ending the war. There is no question that General George S. Patton, Jr. has earned his place in the pantheon of American legends.
The Colt 1903: Protection Without Equal
Created by legendary gunsmith John Moses Browning, the American-made Colt Model 1903 was one of the first semi-automatic pistols on the market. Despite being called the “Pocket Hammerless,” the Model 1903 actually has a hammer concealed inside the slide. That internal hammer, combined with a lightweight, low-profile frame, set the 1903 apart from other pistols of its time.
One vintage Colt ad described the Pocket Model Hammerless Automatic as “powerful, accurate and utterly dependable” and claimed that the pistol “withstood every test of reliability, durability and safety and as an instrument for practical, instant and unfailing protection, has no equal.”
The General George S. Patton, Jr. Tribute 1903 Pistol is issued exclusively by America Remembers on a working Colt Model 1903 Pocket Hammerless Pistol in caliber .32 ACP issued in a limited edition of 300. Craftsmen commissioned specifically for this project by America Remembers decorate each pistol in shimmering nickel and 24-karat gold accents, transforming this iconic sidearm into a work of art.
We are proud to honor the distinguished career of this legendary American military leader and grateful that the concept and design of the Tribute has been officially authorized by the Family of General George S. Patton, Jr.
The Colt 1903 is Called to Serve
The idea of supplying general officers with a standard pistol was a sign that the old rules of warfare had changed. In past conflicts, most generals and other high-ranking officers commanded troops far from the frontline action. World War II fighting, however, required general officers to be more mobile. As a result, the military needed to ensure that its leaders in the field were equipped with an easy-to-carry and reliably lethal sidearm.
The .32 ACP caliber Model 1903 was lighter than the .38s and less bulky than the .45-caliber Model 1911. Its “flat as a book” design and smooth lines perfectly suited an officer on the move. Generals Eisenhower, Bradley, Marshall, and George S. Patton, Jr. were among the recipients of the first military-issued Colt 1903 pistols.
Many collectors consider the Model 1903 one of Browning’s greatest design accomplishments. In an agreement with U.S. Armament Corp, Colt has authorized the reissue of the Model 1903 “General Officer’s Pistol” in all of its former glory. For so many historic firearm collectors, this exciting reissue has marked the return of one of Colt’s greatest guns.
