In Tribute to the United States Navy

"Don't Give Up The Ship" U.S. Navy Tribute Pistol

In honor of the United States Navy and the men and women who are serving and have served through the years, America Remembers proudly presents the pistol.  Issued on the classic military Colt Government Model Pistol, this pistol is decorated with artwork honoring all those who have proudly served in the United States Navy.  Crafted of the finest blued and parkerized steel, this magnificent firearm is made by Colt Manufacturing Company, Inc. in Hartford, Connecticut, and is fully functional.

Featuring the familiar sleek lines and efficient design that has made the Colt .45 a legend, this is a sidearm carried by Naval officers and sailors for many years.

Each pistol is decorated by craftsmen commissioned specifically for this issue by America Remembers.  Etched in 24-karat gold on the left and right sides of the slide are beautiful hand-decorated images and words reflecting the spirit and history of the United States Navy.

Revered For Generations

First adopted by the U.S. Navy in 1911, the Colt .45 has been praised for its endurance, reliability and accuracy. Durable, powerful and easy to maintain, the Colt .45 proved perfectly suited to battle conditions. It occupies a position of respect unparalleled in the world of military firearms.

Colt historian and author R. L. Wilson has written that "more collectors pursue the Model 1911 and its variations than any other automatic Colt."

Decorated In Lustrous 24-Karat Gold

In the center of the slide are the words, "Don't Give Up The Ship," etched in 24-karat gold. Nearest to the breech is USS Constitution, America's oldest commissioned ship in active duty. Launched in 1797, she brought the U.S. Navy to prominence through its victories in the War of 1812 and has served our country for nearly 200 years. "Old Ironsides," with donations from schoolchildren, was refurbished and is berthed in Boston.

On the opposite side, etched in gold, is the legend "United States Navy" and a guided missile cruiser, one of the latest classes of ships in the Navy. Ships of the class are 567 feet long with crews of 358. They are equipped with the latest guided missiles, guns, torpedoes, radar and combat data systems.
